 THE LEGEND OF THE "GARRYOWEN"

All information on this page has been removed.

Someone sent me the info, and since I didn't verify the source, the owner of the material blamed me for stealing it.
Scroll down for the whole story.

I don't need the info that bad, so I have removed it.

If you are looking for Garryowen information, try the Google search bar at the top of the page.

Here's the story:

-----Original Message----- (I did not edit the grammatical or spelling errors)

Its hard to believe you are a Officer in the Cavalry, most  of  the information that you display on your website is stolen from other websites,  including other cavalry sites, have you  no shame?

Some months ago I asked you kindley to remove anything that you stole from the xxxxxxx Association  and the History of the xxth Cavalry Regiment wesites.  You did comply to  some extent but  still  display the material, Photos and Icons that you stole..  xxxxxxxx even called you.

Please remove your URL  http://www.cavhooah.com/garryowen.htm

I am the originator and you do not have my permission, xxxxxxx did not Give you permission and could not have! "he is not the orginator" of the material that you "stole"  That SIR  make's you a thief!

xxxxx own words were!  "  if  you are going to copy someone work you  should at least give the originator credits for it.  That is not permission to steal..  No one stops you from linking to the information.

PS.. I am Bcc:  this  email to the President of our Assocaition, and xxxx xxxxxxx. They in turn will send it out to hundereds of fellow cavalry officers

-----My Reply-----

Sir,

My sincere apologies. When I spoke to Mr. xxxxxx, I explained to him that I receive a LOT of information, and that I cannot always verify the source. When he spoke to me about specific Garryowen information, I told him I would immediately remove it from the site as soon as I got home (I was in the field when I talked to him). He told me about the years of research he had conducted to include much of it at his own expense, and I highly respect that. I told him that I would abbreviate the information, credit him for it, and offer links to his site, (which he agreed with and I did). He said, "don't quit what you are doing." I did not know that it was your information. I make every effort to find the source of information, especially if it is sent to me, to avoid situations like this.

Sir, please understand that I am only offering information for avid Cav fans and soldiers, and maybe some history buffs. I put up the site for fun and I have a few affiliate links to help me cover the costs of the site, which it does not, and I don't mind paying for it out of my pocket, because I enjoy making the site. If I am being accused of "stealing" information, then I will gladly remove it. It is no big deal to me. As I said before, I just want folks to be aware of Cavalry history and traditions, because I have been Cav since 1995 and I am proud of it. I just do what I can with the site between deployments and field problems as a hobby.

I have checked every email I received, and I requested anything that my server might still have had. I found no email from you. Ever. I have had two requests to change or remove information, and I complied with them immediately. I will remove any and all pages with your information on it, and I will remove all references to your site and your organization from my links pages. Prior to sending you this email, the Garryowen page will be changed. When you verify that it has been removed, please remember to refresh your browser - this will ensure that the page has been changed.

If it makes you feel better to send out my name to your organization, call me a thief, and tell me I have no shame, well, that's your prerogative. I am not making this site to be the Cav king of the internet or to get more hits than someone else. If folks email me asking for information about Garryowen, I will point them to Google.

As it is, my wife is pregnant with our third child due in June, and I am scheduled to redeploy with the 101st to Iraq in September, so I will probably just shut down the site. I just don't have time for this. You are simply making the decision a little easier. This way, I can focus more on my job and my family, and all your information will be safe from copyright infringement.

Please forward this to the president of your organization and Mr. xxxxx also, with my sincerest apologies for trying to spread the word about your unit, Garryowen, and for trying to inform the few hits I get on my site about a cavalry tradition.

UPDATE AUGUST 2005 - Due to the overwhelming response through email regarding this page, I will not be shutting down the site anytime soon (provided I can still run it from the desert!) And yes,
it's a boy!

UPDATE APRIL 2007 - STILL GOING STRONG! And yes, it's another boy!
