All Cavalry Troopers have earned the right to wear the Stetson for life. We’re proud to be Cav. The physical and high intelligence needed to even be admitted, much less selected, and then graduate US Cavalry school at Ft. Knox separates the men from the boys.

Their job? Go out and find the enemy, deep behind enemy lines in many cases.

I did Cav school at 30 (reclassified from Intel) and smoked the mostly 18-year-olds in my troop. But I had been in the army awhile by then and was in great shape. all 300 PT scores.

I cried the day I graduated and they pinned my sabers on my uniform. I was now able to don the Stetson which only Cavalry had been able to wear before. I had just completed an almost impossible tasks, almost three months of hell in sometimes -20-degree weather while in the field.

Now they’re going to give the Stetson to everybody!

Everybody else wants to wear the Stetson when they see Cav wearing them. It's jealousy.

Fine! Let them do the time at Ft. Knox first. Don’t strip the Cav of its special place as the RECON and front-line intelligence for the army by diluting who can and cannot wear the Stetson..

In remembrance of PLT SGT Carl L Palmer,1st Sqd 7th Cav, 1st Cav Div,KIA,la Drang valley South Viet Nam Nov 1965, My father-in-law I never met. There were also a lot of other troopers lost that day and the next who deserve mention. Even the survivors gave a lot during the engagement. I too am an old Cav Scout from 1972 to 1992 and still fly my crossed sabers.
Fiddlers Green is a calm resolve to think about while you are going through H___!
May fewer troopers make it there!

I completely disagree with allowing just anyone to wear my beloved stetson. I was in cav units from 2000 to 2006 and it is a time honored tradition of the cavalry. Many great cav troopers have died under that headgear and I feel it is dishonoring their memory. I take it as a slap in the face. Guess I now know what the Rangers felt. What's next? Allowing every soldier to wear the spurs too? I just feel that it is taking away an identifying memorial to the Army's greatest asset. Thank you!
