It is believed the tradition of the Cavalry Hat started around 1875, but the current use of them in the Cav became popular in the early 1960s, during Vietnam. The air cavalrymen started wearing Cavalry Hats, and this slowly spread to the other cavalry units. The Cavalry Hat was a private purchase, costing a wallet-stretching $29 in 1972, and was most often supplied by the Stetson Hat Company. Since Stetson was the most common Cavalry Hat supplier, "Stetson" became synonymous with the Cav Hat.
Today we offer Stetson Cavalry Hats, the Milano CavHooah Cavalry Hat styles, and the Briscoe Resistol Cavalry Hat.

Stetson launched his business on $60 in 1865, survived the Great Depression, and eventually became the largest hat factory in America. The Stetson hat became the preferred Cavalry hat in the 1970s, and Stetson became synonymous with the Cav Hat.
